French Black/Purple potatoes
Adding from the previous post. I’ve finally got around to cooking the exotic looking purple/black potatoes from the local greengrocers, which are also known as Vitelotte potatoes.
I can’t decide what’s the best way so I decided to go through all the mad ways.
1) Boiled for ~15mins.
2) Crushed them with the back of a spoon.
3) Sprinkle fried onions, sea salt, pepper, a bit...

How to prepare the perfect cup of tea? →
According to this article, you need to let the teabag seep in the hot water for 2mins, add milk and wait for 6minutes for the tea to cool down to 60degrees celcius, which supposedly brings out the best in tea.
My conclusion: What do we do with 8 minutes of waiting time? Have cake, of course!
Multi-layered tea!!! Me wants! →
I wonder how they did this! I should figure out how and experiment with densities of different mixtures!

It’s Duan Wu Jie!!! Aka, dragonboat festival aka, dumpling festival, aka 端午节. =D
I wished I had the time to make rice dumplings but it’s not possible until maybe 2 weeks later due to my crazy work schedule at the moment and I’ve got too much other food to clear. But 2 more weeks later it will be farmers’ market and I can get decent organic pork for bak zhang! I love the...

Antimicrobial activity olive oil and vinegar
Ohh I do love a geeky post!
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17536679
“Vinegar and aqueous extracts of virgin olive oil showed the strongest bactericidal activity against all strains tested. Red and white wines also killed most strains after 5 min of contact, black and green tea extracts showed weak antimicrobial activity under these conditions…….”
Unfortunately, I...

Cooking with cucumber?
Ah, the recent EHEC (e.coli) scare from Germany seems to make me feel a little paranoid. Being a bit skint this month and seeing all the salad vegetables on buy 1 get 1 free sale, I think I should take advantage of this. (I have been looking for produce grown in the UK just to be sure. Paranoid am I?!?!)
According to the WHO website, You could eliminate E.coli if the cook has been thoroughly...
